  Francisco (Latin Franciscus PP. And Italian Francesco), secular name Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Buenos Aires, Argentina, December 17, 1936) is 266. º and current Pope of the Catholic Church. As such, it is the head of state of Vatican City. After the resignation of Benedict XVI, was elected on March 13, 2013 on the fifth ballot held during the second day of the conclave.

Tras la renuncia al cargo de Benedicto XVI, fue elegido el 13 de marzo de 2013 en la quinta votación efectuada durante el segundo día de cónclave.

  De ascendencia italiana, Bergoglio trabajó brevemente como técnico químico antes de entrar al seminario como novicio de laCompañía de Jesús. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 1969. De 1973 a 1979 se desempeñó como superior provincial de los jesuitas en Argentina. Desde 1980 hasta 1986 fue rector del Colegio Máximo y de la Facultad de Filosofía y Teología de San Miguel. Luego de un breve paso por Alemania y por Buenos Aires, se radicó en Córdoba durante seis años.
